Fall 2007 Issue of NML

The Fall 2007 issue of Nonprofit Management and Leadership (Volume 18, No. 1), the quarterly journal sponsored by the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations, leads off with two articles using quantitative and qualitative research methods, respectively.

First, "Street Lamps, Alleys, Ratio Analysis, and Nonprofit Organizations" offers an accounting-based model for evaluating the efficiency of nonprofit organizations that draws inspiration from the well-known DuPont framework for analyzing for-profit return on equity. The formula provides a multiplicative simulation of the process of transforming revenue inputs into units of output.

"Nonprofit Association CEOs: How Their Context Shapes What, How, and Why They Learn" takes a phenomenological approach to explore how national membership association CEOs perceive and describe their learning. Critical to these executives' success, the authors conclude, is learning centered around power dynamics, responsibility, and accountability.

"The Role of Social Anxiety in Volunteering" looks at social shyness as a factor in volunteer management as well as fundraising. Two other articles consider nonprofit uses of electronic media.
