Spring 2007 Issue of NML Features Article on Brand Identification

The Spring 2007 issue of Nonprofit Management and Leadership (Volume 17, No. 3), the quarterly journal sponsored by the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations, features a fascinating article on the brand identification of nonprofit organizations. "Global nonprofit brands," write the authors, "are the world's new 'super brands.' Nonprofit organizations command unprecedented levels of trust, and nonprofit brand valuations are on par with major international corporations." Nonprofit managers and leaders will gain a better understanding of brand-building activities, imperatives, and best practices in the field, as well as opportunities and threats associated with the valuation of nonprofit brands.

Two other articles focus on nonprofit volunteering: the differences in perceived barriers to volunteering (and practical implications concerning volunteer recruitment), and human resource techniques for recruiting and retaining direct service and indirect support volunteers. A fourth study explores underlying assumptions about board development practices in nonprofit governance and provides statistically validated measurement tools for assessing board member quality.

Finally, two "From the Field" contributions take a look at two very different groups: a small nonprofit agency in Canada, and NGO field-workers in Bangladesh.
