Wendy Jelinek Receives B. Lenora Benson Award of Excellence
The winner of this year's Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences' B. Lenora Benson Award of Excellence is Wendy Jelinek, Department Assistant to Academic Programs and Recruitment for the Mandel Center. Wendy is the first person to win from the Mandel Center in the history of the award.
This award was established in honor of Bea Benson upon her retirement from MSASS. In her 30 years of service to the University, including seven at MSASS, she consistently demonstrated unselfish service above and beyond her job role and responsibilities.
"When I was called up to receive the B. Lenora Benson award, I was quite surprised (as evidenced by my reaction that day) and I have told everyone since that day how honored I was to receive this award," Wendy said. "I had the opportunity to work with Ms. Benson a little when she worked at MSASS. She is a special person and I recall that she was highly regarded by all of her colleagues while at Case."
"I would just like to say thank you to those who nominated me for this very special honor and to the committee for selecting me from what I'm sure was a pool of many other deserving individuals. Thank you, too, to my colleagues at the Mandel Center and MSASS for helping me with many projects (of all kinds) and for being a friend to me too during my almost 12 years at the Mandel Center."
For the B. Lenora Benson award, staff, faculty and students were asked to submit nominations for individuals whom they felt demonstrated the following characteristics:
- working toward the goals and mission of their department, MSASS, and the University
- teamwork by working efficiently and harmoniously with others
- pride and genuine interest in his or her work
- strong work ethic
Also, congratulations to all the winners of the M"SASSy" Special Recognition Awards, which are a way for staff members to acknowledge each other for a job well done:
Debra Fink, Curtis O'Neal, Joan Llewellyn, June Hund, Wendy Jelinek, Sandy Sams, Lena Ford, Richard Cole, and Traci Douglas.
