Construction Begins for New Mandel Center Building
The Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations - one of the first programs in the country with a primary focus on educating nonprofit management leaders - reached another milestone as it begins an $11 million project to build its new center on Bellflower Road and becomes the first center of its kind with its own freestanding building.
Site work for the building to be located on Bellflower Road, a block east of the Peter B. Lewis Building, began in early August and is scheduled to open in late summer 2007.
On Friday, November 3, Mandel Center faculty and staff honored the Mandel family for their $6.75 million gift for the building with a reception and luncheon. Please view photos from that event.
"The new building represents a tremendous step forward for the Mandel Center and it is also representative of the stature the Mandel Center has as a leading national program," said Susan L. Eagan, executive director of the Mandel Center. She went on to say that "we are deeply grateful to the Mandel Family for its generosity and sustained commitment to the Center."
The new building will offer expanded opportunities for scholarly exchanges, as well as graduate and executive education locally, nationally and internationally through onsite and distance learning classes. For the first time, students, faculty and staff will have their own building where Mandel Center classes will be held. The building will also offer facility space for university- and community-based meetings, seminars and workshops.
