Alumni Annual Meeting Held at House of Blues
Kickoff of New Mandel Center Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fund

This year's Mandel Center Alumni Association Annual Meeting, "Laying the Foundation for the Next Twenty Years," was held on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the House of Blues in downtown Cleveland. President of the Alumni Association, Holly Holcombe, welcomed the more than 50 guests in attendance and thanked the board members from the past year for their hard work and dedication to the association.

Susan Eagan, Executive Director of the Mandel Center, spoke about the progress of the new building that will house the Mandel Center upon completion in 2007.

Winner of last year's Outstanding Alumni Award, Jeffrey Bowen, received the honor of presenting the award to this year's winner, Linda Serra, as part of the meeting. Linda received her MBA/CNM in 1996 and has served as the Center's Managing Editor for Nonprofit Management and Leadership, which is the first journal to bring together the best thinking and most advanced knowledge about the special needs, challenges and opportunities of nonprofit organizations. Linda is also the Coordinator of Research Services for the Center and she worked for several years with the Mandel Center's Alumni Association.

To conclude the meeting's program, Bill Hinkley, Chairman of the Alumni Association's Development Committee, kicked off the Mandel Center Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fund. Bill encouraged alumni to make a pledge over the next two years to contribute to the endowment fund, which will go toward the tuition of future Mandel Center students.

Attendees were also encouraged to write ideas on "idea bricks," which were featured throughout the room, about how they envision the Mandel Center's new building. The idea bricks were then stacked to represent the coming together of ideas for the building and a vision of how to lay the foundation for the next twenty years. Read the ideas written on the idea bricks.
