YPS Held Ninth Annual Workshop
The Youth Philanthropy and Service (YPS) Annual Workshop was held on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Holiday Inn in Independence, Ohio.
The day started out with an inspiring speech from keynote speaker Travis Wright, Board Member for the Points of Light Foundation. Travis Wright received his Master's Degree in Education from Harvard University where he is now pursuing a Ph.D. He has worked over the last 10 years at the local, state and national level to support youth service, service learning and youth leadership. He helped to establish a statewide youth action council, where he conducted technical assistance and training. Mr. Wright was Tennessee's first Youth Engaged in Service (YES) Ambassador for the Points of Light Foundation.
Throughout the day, participants attended their choice of 21 different breakout sessions (15 with youth presenters). One of the sessions featured 7 roundtable discussions, which was a new presentation format for the workshop. During this breakout session, attendees had the opportunity to directly interact with presenters in a conversational setting, learning about a specific program or resource. During lunch, attendees also had the chance to visit 25 organization and project exhibits. As always, youth played a large part in both presenting and attending the workshop.
YPS is a program of the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Case Western Reserve University. It develops and promotes leadership and personal involvement by youth in the giving of time, treasure and talent to their community.
