Treu-Mart Youth Development Fellowship Program Holds Reception to Kick Off Its Initiative

The Treu-Mart Youth Development Fellowship Program, a new initiative developed to enhance the leadership skills of youth development professionals working with middle school youth, kicked off with a reception on Wednesday, January 26th.

The featured speaker of the event was Gary Walker, President of Public Private Ventures, a nonprofit organization located in Philadelphia that analyzes policy, performs evaluation and provides technical assistance on social issues. Public Private Ventures focuses especially on issues affecting youth and young adults, working with all levels of government and the private sector around the country. Mr. Walker shared his insights about out-of-school time opportunities for youth, particularly in early adolescence.

Over 40 people were in attendance from the Cleveland community, including a number of leading human service agencies and local foundations.

The Treu-Mart Youth Development Fellowship Program is a cooperative venture between the Treu-Mart Fund, a supporting organization of the Cleveland Foundation and the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland, and the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations.

The purposes of the Fellowship are to:
  • Provide intellectual, interpersonal, and professional supports to youth service providers to enable them to model caring environments, high expectations, and opportunities for meaningful participation in their work with youth.
  • Build on the existing strengths and capacity of community-based agencies to enhance affirming social networks for middle school aged youth.

The Fellowship is geared toward those people working with middle school aged youth during out-of-school time and consists of professional development focusing on youth development and resiliency, as well as peer-to-peer support and technical assistance. Fellows will be awarded a stipend and will also be able to earn Continuing Education Units and/or Required Clock Hours. There will be no cost for an agency to participate.
