Alumni Class Notes

The Mandel Center alumni are up to some exciting things and wanted to share them with you. Nik Apostolides, CNM '98, completed a temporary assignment over the summer at the White House (Office of Management and Budget) evaluating the performance of the United States Attorneys program across the nation. He used many of the research and analysis skills he learned at the Mandel Center to successfully complete this project!

Steve Bossart, MNO '01, was elected President of the Delta Chi Fraternity, Inc., a membership association with 121 chapters across North America and over 65,000 living alumni. Steve has also been promoted to Director of Development at the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland.

Jeffrey Bowen, MNO '98, was presented with the "Outstanding Alumni 2004" Award by the Mandel Center Alumni Association at the annual meeting in May 2004.

Lisa Burford, MNO '94, wed Travis Hardmon on September 4, 2004 in the Bahamas. The couple resides in Washington, DC.

Laurel Domanski, MNO '04, wed Sergio Diaz on August 21, 2004. Her new name is Laurel Domanski Diaz.

Shelly Gracon, NCNM '01, was promoted to Public Events Manager at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens.

Beth Katona, MNO '96, and Jenny Keiser-Ruemmele, MNO '96, are working together doing grantwriting and development for a pre-college program of Portland State University. Jenny works remotely from her home in the mountains of Idaho and visits Beth in Portland, OR to work every couple of months. It is a nonprofit phone/e-collaboration success!

Brett Katz, MNO '98, recently became the director of development for The Children's Hospital at The Cleveland Clinic.

Amber MacKenzie, MNO '99, had a 9 pound, 4 ounce baby girl, Isabella Joy MacKenzie, on April 4, 2004. Amber also recently changed jobs within the Western Michigan University Foundation and is now the Director of Development for the Hawthorn College of Business.

Holli Mallak, MNO '00, graduated from Leadership Akron and was voted President of the class.

Wendy Matthews, MNO '02, was promoted to Director of Human Resources at the American Red Cross.

Bhuvana Nandakumar, MNO '02, lives in Norwalk, Connecticut and works as a consultant to nonprofit organizations. Bhuvana was elected President of the Board of the Foundation for World Education, a nonprofit organization that supports educational and community development programs throughout the world. Bhuvana looks forward to connecting with anyone from the Mandel Center family visiting this part of the country.

Christy Nicholls, MNO '03, was accepted to law school at Cleveland State University's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and began the program this past fall.

Jascia Redwine, NCNM '99, wed Francois Fiset on June 14, 2004 outside of Las Vegas, in an outdoor ceremony at the Valley of Fire.

Mary Slaman-Forsythe, MNO '97, founder and president of The Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome Foundation, has completed a several year goal of a multi-lingual web site for the organization at tttsfoundation.org. The site was created to educate and provide help to parents whose babies have been diagnosed with this life-threatening disease. The Foundation helps to save babies with information now in English, Spanish, German and French with more languages to be added. The organization celebrates 15 years in operation this year.

Marie Rader, MNO '95, began the EDM program as a Mandel Fellow following her completion of the MNO during the summer semester. She will be doing research in the area of "multiple organizational identity."

Lisa Meeder Turnball, NCNM '96, has been called by the Episcopal Bishop of Maine to serve as Director of the One in Christ campaign. The bishop has defined this call as extending beyond the traditional role of capital campaign director to include the mission of bringing about the diocesan vision for common ministry.

Vickey Yates, MNO '04, is working at Ohio Wesleyan University as the Associate Director of Annual Giving. She is engaged to Joseph Milligan of Galion, Ohio - Joe is an Executive Pharmaceutical Sales Specialist with Organon Pharmaceuticals. Wedding plans are pending.
