Alum Nominated to Federal Circuit

President Barack Obama recently nominated Case Western Reserve University alumna Kathleen McDonald O'Malley to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

O'Malley, a distinguished visiting jurist at the School of Law, serves on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. She has been on the bench since 1994 and is the first district court judge ever nominated to the Federal Circuit.

O'Malley's litigation practice focused on intellectual property, securities fraud, trade secrets, shareholders' rights and large-scale coverage disputes.

She regularly teaches courses in patent litigation at the law school. O'Malley graduated from the School of Law in 1982. As a law student, she was on Law Review, was chair of the National Mock Trial Team and won the International Trial Practice Award.
