Application and Process

Applicants to the LL.M. degree program can use the online or PDF applications. Candidates can submit applications as early as September; decisions are made beginning in December.

Required Documents
  • Completed application form and personal statement.
  • Official copy of transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions attended with notarized translation into English where applicable.
  • An official TOEFL score or an IELTs record report is required for all students whose native language is not English—except those with a degree from an institution where English is the language of instruction. Our TOEFL institutional code is 1105.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
Online Application

Complete the online application through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) and register for the LSAC Document Assembly Service ($75), and law school report ($25/school).

Mail to LSAC: Official transcripts, official TOEFL or IELTS score reports, and two letters of recommendation.

Mail to the law school address below:

  • A certified letter from a bank, sponsoring agency, or government attesting to the source of funding for tuition and living expenses ($13,000) for one year. Also include the same for living expenses for dependents, if applicable: Spouse $6,000 & $3,000 per child.
  • A photocopy of current, valid passport.

PDF Application

Mail the completed PDF application and other required documents to the law school address below with:

  • A $50 application fee, payable by bank draft in U.S. dollars (USD) to "Case Western Reserve University."
  • A certified letter from a bank, sponsoring agency, or government attesting to the source of funding for tuition and living expenses ($13,000) for one year. Also include the same for living expenses for dependents, if applicable: Spouse $6,000 & $3,000 per child.
  • A photocopy of current, valid passport.

Application Review

Applications are reviewed in order of their receipt and completion. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to apply early during the academic year before the fall of the entry year. Admission decisions are made beginning in December. Most admission decisions are made between December 15 and June 15.

Eligibility

Candidates must have at least a foreign university-level degree in law and a TOEFL of 90 or IELTS of 6.5. Candidates whose TOEFL or IELTS scores do not meet the criteria but otherwise have excellent academic and professional credentials, may be granted conditional admission with additional English language study and/or completion of our Summer Language and Law Institute.
