To better serve the CASE Community, ITS provides an on campus Dell Hardware Support Service. This service covers hardware issues on Optiplex, Dimension, Latitude and Inspiron computers that are under warranty. This service is a supplement to the normal warranty support channels provided directly by Dell to owners and end users. 

How to use this service:

If you are experiencing a problem with your Dell computer, call the Help Desk at 368-HELP for troubleshooting. The Help Desk Representative will determine the nature of your problem and will refer you to the support that you need. They will need to make a note of your Dell computer’s service tag number.


Finding the Service Tag Number:

  • Optiplex and Dimension systems have their service tag on the back of the system or on the side panel

  • Latitude and Inspiron systems have their service tag on the bottom of the system

Services Provided:

  • Hardware diagnostic and troubleshooting

  • Hardware replacement or repair

  • Operating System (Microsoft Windows, etc.) installation when needed due to a covered hardware failure (you must provide the Operating System media (CD))

  • Data migration when needed due to a covered hardware failure

  • Installation of SoftwareCenter Standard Load set when needed due to a covered hardware failure

  • Paperwork, ordering and return of defective parts associated with warranty repair

Service Policies:

  • Latitude and Inspiron laptops can be carried in for service to Crawford 603 by appointment only

  • Service for Optiplex and Dimension desktop computers will be scheduled for an onsite appointment.

  • Repair of systems running Operating Systems other than Microsoft Windows will be done on a best effort basis.

  • No loaner systems are available

  • The service tag information must be provided when calling the Help Desk
