Lecture Series Speaker - Russell M. Pitzer

 

Russell M. Pitzer received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Caltech in 1959 and a Ph.D. degree in chemical physics from Harvard University in 1963. In 2003, he received an honorary D.H.L. degree from Pitzer College , where he is also a trustee. He has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Chemistry at Ohio State University since 1968, and received the Faculty Award for Distinguished University Service in 2004. His research interests include developing and applying methods and software for molecular electronic structure and spectroscopy. His current research is on relativistic methods for molecules containing heavy atoms. Recent applications have been to lanthanide and actinide complexes. He is one of the authors of the Columbus suite of molecular programs. He is a co-founder of the Ohio Supercomputer Center and of OARnet, the statewide academic computer network.
