Abstract
One of Purdue's strategic plan goals is to achieve and sustain preeminence in discovery by d eveloping new means and incentives to improve internal collaboration in major research initiatives supported by seamless operational processes . To meet this challenge it became clear that the partnership between the research community and the central IT organization had to be rebuilt and strengthened. To directly support the university's growing research mission, Purdue University 's IT Department has engaged in a series of faculty- driven initiatives that have laid the foundation for a Purdue Computational Grid. The result has reshaped the model for IT's mission in association with research. To ensure continued success, many changes within the central IT organization have been and will continue to be made.
