Blackboard Communication Tools: Task List
Tasks
Blackboard contains a tool called Tasks that lets you create a list of dated, prioritized tasks that you want to remember. Tasks are available under the Tools heading on everyone's "My Institution" page, and instructors also have access to Course Tasks where they can designate tasks for each of their classes.
Tasks appear on "My Institution" under My Tasks. To view any tasks on days yet to come, click on Tasks under Tools to view a complete list.
Adding Tasks
- a. To add to personal tasks, go to My Institution and choose Tasks under Tools.
b. Instructors who want to add course-related tasks, go to the Blackboard page for a particular course. Next go to the Control Panel and select Tasks from the Course Tools.
- Click the Add Task button.
- Type in a title for the task, a description, due date, and prioritize the task's urgency (low, normal, high). Click Submit to continue.
- You will see a confirmation page. If you want to edit the task, click the Back button to return to Course Tasks.
- Edit or remove tasks from the list by going to the task list and clicking the Modify or Remove button. When you choose to modify a task, the screen will look just like the one that appeared when you created the task initially. If you choose to remove a task, you will be prompted to verify deletion of the task from the list. Click Yes or No when prompted.
Working with the task list
When you click on more... by the list of Today's Tasks on your My Institution page, your list of accumulated tasks will look something like this:
- You may change the priority and status of the task as well as add other tasks.
- To change the priority, click the icon next to the particular task. High priority is denoted by an upward red arrow, normal priority by a blue square, and low priority by a grey downward arrow. Each time you click the icon it will change to a different level of priority, cycling through these three options.
- To change the status, click on the status indicator by the particular task. Status options are Not Started, In Progress, and Completed. Each time you click on the status, it will change.
- If you added a particular task to the list, you will see Modify and Remove buttons which you can use to edit your task list. Students may not remove or modify tasks submitted to the list by their instructors.
