Appendix A - Standard Windows Configuration
Standard Software Configurations for Windows Servers
The preferred Windows operating system is Windows Server
2003 Standard. We support the following
Windows operating systems for supported servers
- Windows 2000 Server Standard
- Windows 2000 Server Advanced
- Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
- Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
- Windows Servers 2003 Data Center Edition*
* Note: It is strongly recommended that all Windows drivers
are certified by Microsoft.
Windows servers will have the following standard load set**:
- Altiris Deployment Solution for Servers
- Symantec Anti-Virus
- Tripwire host-based change detection system
- Legato network backup client
- Microsoft Office XP if required and requested
- Adobe Acrobat if required and requested
- SNMP will be enabled and restricted to ITS personnel
- Windows Management Instrumentation will be enabled
- Microsoft Operations Manager CAL
- Microsoft Systems Management Server CAL
- ActiveState Perl
- Microsoft SQL Server if required and requested
- Legato SQL Server backup client if required and requested
- Microsoft Internet Information Server (Web server) if required and requested
- Other Items from the Software Center as are required
** Note: Not all of these software options may be installed today, but this is our direction.

for Altiris Deployment Solution must be purchased
with the server and can be included in the order from Dell. The license is available under Software and
the details are:

Standard Hardware Configurations for Windows Servers
Windows
servers will have the following minimum hardware requirements in order to meet
requirements for availability and time to respond:
- Redundant power supplies with independent cords
- RAID
- Hardware remote access and control
- Rackmount with rails for square hole racks
- 3 year next business day onsite hardware support
- Auto ranging power supply for 120 or 220 Volt input
- PCI Express
- No keyboard
- No monitor
- Floppy drive
- DVD reader
- Active Bezel (displays system status on front panel)
- Electronic documentation
- 2GB RAM
- Intel Xeon 3.4GHz CPU
- Gigabit ethernet
Dell is a strategic partner with Case and will be used for
Windows servers. The CPU speed, number
of CPUs, amount of memory, amount and configuration of disk storage may vary
based on application needs. To reduce
the effort of configuring a specific server, you may choose one of the
following pre-configured servers:
- 1U Standard - one 3.4GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, and 146GB usable storage
- 1U Premier - two 3.4GHz CPU, 8GB RAM, and 300GB usable storage
- 2U Standard - one 3.4GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, and 365GB usable storage
- 2U Premier - two 3.6GHz CPU, 8GB RAM, and 673GB usable storage
