About Employee Recognition
Purpose and Objectives
Information Technology Services Rewards and Recognition Policy is designed to encourage employees to make a difference either individually or as part of a group effort. The policy recognizes achievements or accomplishments that contribute to the overall objectives of the Division of Information Technology Services and Case Western Reserve University.
The objectives of the Rewards and Recognition Policy are:
- to recognize and promote positive behaviors that support individual, work group, unit, team, department, school and/or institutional mission and business goals and objectives;
- to provide timely recognition to employees either as planned or immediate recognition; to provide multiple-levels of monetary and non-monetary recognition based on the significance of the contribution;
- to provide both individual and team recognition and rewards;
- to provide for both manager and employee initiated recognition and rewards;
- to improve employee productivity and quality of work; and
- to improve our quality of customer service.
Eligibility
This policy is applicable to all full-time and part-time employees of the Division of Information Technology Services.
Types of Employee Recognition
- Planned Employee Recognition

This approach is characterized by pre-arranged, more frequently scheduled ways of acknowledging contributions and accomplishments of an individual or team. This approach is less formal and provides more frequent opportunities to recognize employees.
Examples include rewards and recognition for:
- Employee of the month
- Employee of the year
- Customer service
- Public service
- Productivity
- Outstanding achievements
Immediate Employee Recognition

This approach provides employee rewards and recognition at any time for demonstration of behaviors and values of the organization, contributions to the goals and objectives of the organization or work unit and to acknowledge individual or team accomplishments.
Examples include rewards and recognition for:
- Teamwork
- Project completion
- Suggesting a new or modified business practice
- Exemplary effort
- Employee appreciation
- Nomination of Outstanding Effort
Internal Nomination
All staff members are encouraged to submit their recommendation for Outstanding Efforts by their co-workers and staff through the ITS Nomination for a Job Well Done web page. These recommendations will be forwarded to the ITS Directors on a monthly basis. Upon consideration, the Outstanding Employee will be named. All other employees receiving nominations will receive a certificate recognizing their accomplishments.
External Nomination
Members of the University community will be encouraged to nominate outstanding efforts by our staff through the ITS Nomination for a Job Well Done. These recommendations will also be forwarded to the directors on a monthly basis. Upon consideration, the Outstanding Employee will be named.All other employees receiving nominations will receive a certificate recognizing their accomplishments.
Awards
Recognition awards may include: plaques; trophies; certificates; desk items; cups and mugs; and personal items of clothing such as caps, shirts, and sweatshirts; and other items such as tools, electronics, radios, sports equipment and timepieces.
Publications of Awards
Employees who are award recipients will be recognized via the ITS web site. Our purpose is to share their extraordinary effort with others!
