The current international planning process began in January 2010 and will conclude with a final report and recommendations to the provost by May 2011. Work will continue beyond May 2011 to oversee implementation of the recommendations and to examine additional topics, including areas relevant to graduate and professional students.

Key dates in the current international planning process include:

January 2010 American Council on Education engaged to consult with International Planning Committee; introductory workshop with president and provost; initial meeting of International Planning Committee
Spring 2010 Continuing meetings of International Planning Committee; working groups begin meeting
May 2010 International Planning Committee recommends initial organizational structure for the Office of Global Strategy to the provost; provost accepts recommendations and undertakes to implement them as promptly as resources are available
Summer 2010 Working groups continue meeting; concentrated time for research; technology/communications working group begins development of international database; email sent to campus community to seek input on the international planning process
Fall 2010 Launch Office of Global Strategy website; hold campus forums to obtain community input into the international planning process; continue work on international database; continue meetings of the International Planning Committee and working groups
December 2010 Interim reports of working groups due to International Planning Committee
Winter 2011 Continue meetings of the International Planning Committee and working groups; coordination by International Planning Committee among working groups to identify common areas and further work; continue work on database
March 2011 Final reports of working groups due to International Planning Committee
Spring 2011 Continue meetings of International Planning Committee and working groups to coordinate recommendations and develop a cohesive strategic plan; continue work on international database
May 2011 International Planning Committee's final report and recommendations due to the provost
January 2012 Plan for Internationalization finalized
