Paying for Study Abroad

While study abroad costs vary, studying abroad does not need to cost a lot of money. Many of our semester long study abroad programs cost less than a semester at CWRU.

All students going on our long-term programs of a semester or a year pay regular tuition to CWRU and all of their financial aid applies. We then pay any tuition costs to the host institution directly. Housing, flights, and any other program fees are the responsibility of the student. Summer study abroad students going on direct enroll or provider programs do not pay anything to CWRU, but are responsible for paying tuition and program fees to the host institution or provider directly.

Students who are going on short-term programs led by faculty will be getting credit from CWRU and will pay tuition based on the number of credit hours of the course. This includes summer faculty-led programs. Students will also pay a program fee to CWRU to cover housing and other expenses.

Students can apply for additional financial aid to help cover study abroad expenses through our Financial Aid Office. For more information about financial aid for study abroad, contact Nancy Issa in the Office of Financial Aid at nxi@case.edu.

In addition to financial aid available through CWRU, there are many scholarships that are available for study abroad students. A list of scholarships can be found here.
