OBJECTIVES AND PLANNED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Following is a summary Campus Services' major objectives and planned
accomplishments for 2000-01.
Department-Wide
- Working in conjunction
with the Peter B. Lewis occupancy committee, develop and implement
occupancy and operational plans for the facility, in order to
achieve a successful opening. These plans will include security,
custodial, parking, food service/vending, access services and
printing.
- Develop operational
plans for security, parking, custodial, vending, food service
and other services, as applicable, to support the evolving plan
for occupancy of the Mt. Sinai facility.
- Working jointly with
other departments within Finance & Administration, develop
and implement a customer service-training program for front line
staff. This program is intended to improve awareness of customer
service issues, improve related skills, and seek additional ways
to utilize the Facilities & Operations customer service center.
- Form a focus group
representing all the units of Campus Services to review the specific
needs of our undergraduate student customers. Develop a plan to
market the applicable services to undergraduate students in order
to support the overall university goal of improving the quality
of undergraduate student life.
- Develop a relocation
plan for Campus Service's management staff relative to the planned
occupancy of Sigma Chi by the Dively Center. Review and address
other facility and space issues including internal renovation
of the NCO, adequacy of current Printing space and location of
food service technician.
- Plan and conduct the
second annual Campus Services Community Service project utilizing
staff volunteers to support a deserving cause.
Protective Services
Operations
- Continue to
maintain a low rate of serious crime through the deployment of patrol
staff and the application of available technology. Respond quickly
to emerging crime trends and implement effective counter measures.
- In partnership with
UCPD and other UCI institutions, develop and conduct joint training
programs to enhance the capability of security personnel and improve
our collective ability to respond to crime patterns and address
other security concerns.
- Review operational
issues and implement measures to improve retention and stability
of the dispatch operation.
Systems
- Implement the new Lenel
access control system and begin conversion of facilities. This
new installation will provide the platform to integrate with other
systems, including CCTV, in order to improve the overall level
of security on campus.
- Complete the issuance
of an RFP and select a new out door emergency phone system to
replace the existing system. Begin multi-year implementation.
Integrate outdoor phone system with CCTV and Lenel access control
system.
- In partnership with
UCI and other institutions, review the possibility of sharing
a trunked radio system with the potential to improve overall capacity,
add features and provide stability in terms of access to radio
frequencies.
- Develop final plan
and begin implementation of addressable fire alarm monitoring
for residence halls and the balance of the Simplex buildings.
- Complete total key
recoring of Mather House as part of the overall key recoring plan.
- Improve key control
in the custodial operation through the phased-in installation
of electronic key boxes in the custodial field offices.
Parking
Operations, Maintenance, & Transportation
- Continue to update
and implement the multi-year major maintenance plan for all university
owned parking structures.
- In conjunction with
other university departments, finalize planning for the new Lot
46 parking structure and develop an interim relocation plan for
existing parkers.
- Complete conversion
of Lot 53 to multi-use facility in order to improve overall efficiency
in the operation of this structure. This will include the conversion
of the existing access control system to the McGann system.
- Complete an assessment
of the condition of the Mt. Sinai garage and develop a plan to
make required improvements in order to have the structure available
for use within our general parking allocation, to serve the specific
needs of the Sinai facility or to support lease arrangements with
other institutions.
- Finalize installation
of perimeter access barriers and implement revised procedures
in order to eliminate all unnecessary vehicular traffic on the
Case Quad.
- Review both the Special
Event parking program and the Visitor Information Center operation
in order to improve efficiency, expand services and increase customer
satisfaction.
Access Services
- Complete the conversion
of the ID system database from the Goddard system to the Lenel
system. Utilize as platform to transfer or develop interfaces
with ISIS, HRIS, Blackboard and other related systems.
- Working in conjunction
with the Campus Card Task Force, continue to expand the services
offered through the CWRUcard program to include:
- Additional retail merchants
- On-line value transfer
- Laundry/Vending
- Possible banking relationship
Effectively market
the program in order to increase participation and improve student
satisfaction.
- Finalize UCI interface
component of the on-line permit sales system.
- In conjunction with
UCI, develop and implement a new courtesy parking validation system.
- Working in partnership
with RTA and Student Affairs, successfully implement the RTA U-Pass
program and distribute RTA passes to all eligible undergraduate
students.
Auxiliary
Services
Dining & Vending
- Successfully complete
the transition of the food service program to the Wood Co. Coordinate
installation of new concepts and implement other required changes
to significantly improve all aspects of the campus-dining program.
- Finalize and begin
implementation of the Ricca & Assoc. master plan. Specific
related objectives for 01-02 include:
- Develop changes
in student meal plan to increase flexibility in dining options.
- Finalize facility
renovation plans for Tomlinson Hall, the North Campus Dining
hall and Fribley Commons
- Pursue a partnership
agreement with Severance Hall to utilize the Severance Restaurant
as a replacement for the existing Faculty Dining Room.
- Develop and implement
revised food service equipment maintenance program utilizing the
new equipment tech position.
- Finalize planning
and implement Phase II (back of the house) renovation of Leutner.
- Develop and issue
an RFP for the vending program. Finalize and implement new contract
with selected vendor
Printing
Services
Bookstore
- Continue to monitor Barnes
& Noble's performance and implement changes, as required,
to improve their service to the campus community.
- In conjunction with
the overall campus master plan and retail planning efforts, continue
planning for the construction of a new bookstore.
Custodial Services
- Successfully complete
the recruitment of the new Asst. Director and complete the reorganization
of the custodial management team in order to provide an effective
structure for sustained program improvement.
- Complete the installation
of the automated supply stations (Green Earth) throughout the
campus in order to reduce supply costs and insure availability.
- Continue to monitor
the performance of the primary custodial contractors; Crothall
and Janco, to insure all cleaning specifications are being accomplished.
- Review maintenance
procedures for all custodial equipment and implement recommendations
for improvement as warranted.
