2000-2001 Annual Report

SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 00/01

The following accomplishments resulted directly from the specific goals developed during last year's planning process:

Accomplishments Related to Major Goals

  • Continued to maintain a low rate of serious crime on campus. We were successful in reducing auto theft and other related offenses during the fall semester as the result of a proactive patrol initiative.
  • Finalized selection of a new campus wide access control system. Installation of the new Lenel system will begin this fall. This system will provide the platform for improved access control, alarm monitoring and CCTV integration throughout the campus.
  • Successfully complied with the new reporting requirements under the Campus Security Act, which were effective on October 1, 2000.
  • Successfully concluded several major internal investigations involving theft and/ or fraud.
  • Completed the RFP process and successfully executed the transition plan for the Wood Company as our new food service vendor. The selection of the Wood Co., and the finalization of the food service master plan being developed in conjunction with Ricca & Assoc., will form the basis for sustained improvement in our campus food service program.
  • Completed the renovation of the Leutner Dining Commons, which has resulted in a significant improvement in the overall operation and improved the aesthetic appeal of the dining experience.
  • Reconvened the Campus ID Card task force to review the status of the campus card program. As a result of this effort, the card program has been renamed CWRUcard and three new vendors have joined the merchant program. A major marketing effort will be undertaken this fall to expand the number of merchants. Pilot programs for card based vending and laundry service will be added this fall. An on-line value transfer program is also in the process of being implemented.
  • Developed and successfully implemented an on-line parking permit registration and sales program for student permit holders. The majority of returning students utilized this program to reserve and purchase their permits. This new program has significantly improved convenience for students.
  • Converted the operation of the campus night shuttle system from UCI to CWRU management. This change, utilizing CWRU security staff as shuttle drivers, resulted in a marked improvement in student satisfaction. The new program includes additional stops, including Coventry Rd., and improved on-time performance.
  • Converted Lot 29 to a multi-use facility in order to better accommodate visitor parking and special events.
  • Completed an RFP and selected a custodial supply company, Hough Supply, to serve as a sole source for basic custodial supplies. This change has resulted in significant savings and has improved both supply distribution and availability.
  • Implemented the Sani-Pak Bio-Hazardous waste sterilization system at the HSC complex. This has resulted in cost savings and improved operational efficiency.
  • Successfully converted the Medical School Cleaning Contract from Janco to Crothall Services, which has significantly improved the overall cleaning of the facility.
  • Invested in new printing technology, which increased the scope of services and addressed specific customer needs.

Other Significant Accomplishments

  • Reduced absenteeism through the implementation of a revised attendance policy.
  • Integrated all custodial service calls into the Customer Service Center.
  • Implemented web-based customer satisfaction surveys for all units.
  • Completed a Campus Services community service day by providing volunteers at Habitat for Humanity.
  • Recruited and deployed a new investigator position, which has had a positive impact on follow-up investigations to criminal incidents.
  • Completed total key recoring of several prioritized buildings.
