1999/00 OBJECTIVES AND PLANNED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Following is a summary Campus Services' major objectives and planned accomplishments for 2000-01.

Department-Wide
  • Integrate selected functions (custodial, key shop) with the new Facilities & Operations Customer Service Center in order to improve facility-related communications and increase efficiency.
  • Implement web-based customer satisfaction surveys for all units and continue to analyze feedback in order to improve operations.
  • Successfully relocate Campus Service's administrative staff to new, permanent location.
  • Initiate a community service project supported by Campus Service's volunteers in order to further the university's community service objectives and enhance the customer service image of Campus Services.
  • Integrate the existing clerical support staff more directly into the financial/ administrative controls process through changes in duties, training and administrative structure.


Protective Services

Security Operations
  • Continue to maintain a low rate of serious crime on campus. Review patrol staffing and deployment and initiate proactive measures to reduce auto related crime, with special emphasis on public streets adjacent to residence halls.
  • Ensure full compliance with new requirements of Campus Security Act through distribution of revised publication by Oct. 1, 2000.
  • Successfully recruit and deploy new investigator position in order to improve response capability to emerging crime patterns. Incorporate crime prevention function with investigative function to improve efficiency and response capability.
  • Finalize review of joint dispatch center with UCPD in order to determine feasibility. Review potential for joint training programs with UCPD and other UC institutions in order to improve communication, coordination and cost -effectiveness.

Protective Systems
  • Finalize vendor selection for new, integrated Access Control, ID and CCTV management system and complete phase I installations. Coordinate conversion of selected parking structures to UCI parking access control system.
  • Complete RFP for new out door emergency phone system and begin implementation of multi-year replacement plan for emergency phones
  • Monitor proposed changes in state and/or federal laws involving campus fire safety and develop compliance strategies as required.
  • Develop cost estimates and finalize planning to provide addressable monitoring of all residence hall fire devices at central dispatch and expansion of Simplex addressable monitoring capability from HSC to the entire campus.
  • Complete the key recoring of high priority facilities based on existing integrity of key control. Facilities to be completed in 2000/01 are Pathology, Sears, Eldred and the Law School.
Parking Operations and Maintenance
  • Continue to implement multi-year parking facility maintenance plan and work with the planning office to finalize parking capacity expansion projects which are currently under review.
  • Review operation of the Visitor Information Center (VIC) and implement recommended changes in operations and expanded services in order to improve overall functionality.
  • Review UCI's operation of the night shuttle system and make recommendations for improvement in order to address student concerns regarding performance and structure of system.


Access & Auxiliary Services

Access/Auxiliary Counter Operations
  • Review status of Campus Card program including scope of current applications, system interfaces, marketing, off-campus options, compliance with Regulation E and potential for a banking relationship. Based on this review, re-position campus card program in order to improve overall utility for students and increase card based sales revenue.
  • Successfully implement web-based parking to include both E commerce and a direct interface to the UCI parking system in order to improve efficiency and customer service.
  • Continue to streamline the operational and systems interfaces between access and auxiliary functions. Review controls related to cash handling procedures to insure all appropriate checks and balances are in place within the counter operation.

Food Service/ Vending
  • In conjunction with outside consultant, complete food service master plan and begin planning implementation of recommended changes in meal plan, dining operations and facility renovations.
  • Complete RFP process for food service contract and finalize implementation of new or revised contract by July 1, 2001.
  • Successfully complete Leutner project (phase I) and re-open facility for the new semester. Develop comprehensive contingency plan if facility is not completed by 8/26 (opening of board operations).
  • Develop 5-year replacement plan for all food service equipment and continue to develop cost reduction measures related to food service equipment and facility maintenance.
Bookstore
  • Utilize results of retail study to finalize location of new bookstore. Work with B&N, the planning office and/or project management team to develop new and improved bookstore.
  • Continue to administer B&N contract to ensure compliance and maintain quality of customer service.


Custodial Services

Campus Wide
  • Implement master supply purchasing contract utilizing one primary vendor, selected from recent RFP, in order to realize significant cost savings potential and improve distribution of supplies.
  • Expand revised recycling program throughout the campus in order to increase overall recycling volume and support "green campus" initiatives.
  • Implement Sani-Pak hazardous waste processing system in order to reduce costs and increase efficiency of process.
  • Review organizational structure of custodial operation and recommend any changes warranted to improve efficiency of overall operation, management structure and delivery of services.

Main Campus
  • Continue to improve overall quality, consistency and productivity of in -house program.
Housing
    Monitor Crothall's performance under new management contract. Implement recommended changes in deployment.
HSC
  • Closely monitor Crothall's performance as full service contractor at the School of Medicine to insure that service objectives are maintained.
