- VIN Etching (This program is currently unavailable and information will be posted when the program will resume.)
VIN Etch Registration Form
The Vehicle Identification Number program is an anti-theft device that makes your vehicle unattractive to an auto thief. After stealing a car, most auto thieves change the serial number (VIN plate) and then sell the vehicle to an innocent person. Case Protective Services will etch the vehicle identification number into your car windows with a mild etching paste, making it necessary for the thief to replace all the glass before the vehicle can be sold. Over 900 Case members have participated in this program with outstanding success. You can pick up a registration form at the Protective Services office located on the basement level of the Health Service Building, 2145 Adelbert Rd. at Circle Drive, 368-3333, or at the North Campus Office, 1725 East 115th St. just north of Euclid Ave. 368-6811.
- Bike Lock Rental
The majority of bicycles stolen on campus were secured, but with cable or chain locks easily cut with bolt cutters or wire clippers. There are locks that have been developed to thwart thieves. They are large horseshoe-shaped locks that fit through the bike frame and wheels while secured to a stationary object. One such lock is the Kryptonite Bike Lock. You can rent a U-shaped Kryptonite lock for just $5.00 per year plus a $15.00 or $20.00 refundable deposit depending on the size of the lock. Although no device can fully insure that a bicycle won't be stolen, we have had great success with our U-shaped Kryptonite locks when properly secured to a fixed object. Call Case Protective Services Office at x6811. Your University ID card is required to rent a lock.

Electric Engraver Loan-Outs
The Office of Protective Services has a number of electric engravers that can be borrowed, free of charge, by members of the Case community. The use of these engravers to etch your personal identification on valuable items is strongly recommended. Engraved items help deter theft and aid in the return of property to the rightful owner should it be lost or stolen.
Equipment Securing: Insurance Claims for thefts of University-owned equipment will be paid only when one of the following conditions exists:
- The equipment was secured by a system approved by the Protective Services Office.
- The subsequent investigation determines that the theft was due to forced entry.
- The equipment was covered by a special portable equipment ("floater") insurance policy. In this case, a $250.00 deductible will apply. Please contact the Office of Real Estate & Insurance for information about this program. Requests for the securing of equipment and secured equipment moves should be directed to Case Protective Services at x3333.
