SECURITY ADVISORY

August 27, 2003
The Department of Protective Services is issuing a security advisory asking the Case Western Reserve University community to be alert for suspicious person(s) in the area. Case security suspects a thief is working on and around campus looking for crimes of opportunity. A male suspect has recently entered a residence hall and a fraternity and said that he wanted to recruit people for intramural sports. After he left both locations, money was discovered missing.

Please be aware of "tailgaters" following you into a building, especially a residence. If you do not know a person, don't let him or her in. If the person should be in the building, he or she will be able to gain access without help.
The suspect is described as an African-American man, approximately 30 years of age, 5'10", 150 to 170 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. He may have been riding a black and white bicycle.

Protective Services cautions you to be careful if you approach a person of whom you are suspicious. A safer option is to call security at x3333 with a description and direction of travel of the suspect.

Report any suspicious persons or activity you observe to Case security immediately at x3333.

If you need further information, or would like a security survey of your work area, please contact the Crime Prevention Office at 368-6811 or e-mail Karen Gregor at kag4@case.edu.
