SECURITY ALERT

 

Type of Incident:  Aggravated Robbery

Location of Incident: Crawford Podium

Date of Incident: Wednesday, July 27, 2005

Time of Incident: 1:53 P.M.

Incident Description: The victim, an intern at the Medical School, was walking eastbound on the south side of Euclid Avenue, when he observed two males following him. The victim crossed the street onto the Crawford podium where he was confronted by the suspects. The suspects claimed to have a gun and demanded money. The victim refused. The suspects punched the victim, and grabbed a chain from around his neck. The suspects fled to a vehicle parked on Martin Luther King Drive and drove away northbound. The vehicle is described as an older model, possibly 1983 -1985 full size van, red and white in color.

Description of Suspect(s): Suspect #1 described as a black male, approximately 18-19 years of age, medium build, wearing a white t-shirt and blue sweat pants. Suspect #2 was described as a black male, approximately 18-19 years of age, medium build, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

Additional Information: The victim sustained minor facial injuries, but refused medical treatment.

  Awareness Information


-To report a crime, suspicious activity or any emergency, please immediately contact the Protective Services Dispatch Center , 24 hours a day, at 368-3333 .  Dispatchers will direct the appropriate University and City responders for the situation.
 
- Protective Services and University Circle Police patrol the campus continually in patrol vehicles, utility vehicles, bicycles, and on foot. 
 
- Escorts are provided anywhere on campus and locations immediately adjacent to campus.  Request an escort 24 hours a day by calling 368-3333 or by using an emergency phone, located throughout the campus.

- Protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/   or the escort service rather than walking alone.  Jog or bike during daylight only in areas you are familiar with and stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp#   if you live on campus.  Let a responsible person know where you are going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone outside of your normal routine.  Trust your gut feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel uncomfortable.
 
- Protect your belongings by locking your office/room door every time you leave, don't leave purses, book bags, laptops and other valuables unattended.  Keep valuables out of site in your car. Don't allow tailgaters to enter secured doors behind you. Report thefts or suspicious activity immediately to Protective Services.
