CASE
WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY
DEPARTMENT OF PROTECTIVE SERVICES SECURITY ADVISORY
The Department of Protective Services is asking the CWRU community to be alert for suspicious person(s) on and around campus. CWRU security suspects a thief is working in the area looking for crimes of opportunity. The most recent crime was the theft of a laptop from the third floor of the Law Library on 3/10. The laptop was left unattended and unsecured. Please keep all offices secure when leaving them even for a moment. If securing the office is not possible (public access needed), please secure all easy-to-carry items such as laptops, camcorders, etc. In libraries or cafeterias, please carry items with you when you leave a table or use the "buddy system" and take turns watching each other's property. Around the time of some of the recent thefts, people have reported seeing a suspicious male in the area. He is described as a black male, 5'10", approximately 40 years old, weighing 180 lbs. with black hair, brown eyes and light facial hair. The suspect often carries a white plastic bag and has been seen wearing a three-quarter length, black leather coat and a British style "Kangol" hat. Protective Services cautions you to be careful if you approach a person of whom you are suspicious. A safer option is to call security at x3333 with a description and direction of travel of the suspect. If you need additional
information, or would like a security survey of your work area,
please contact the Crime Prevention Office at 368-6811 or e-mail
Karen Gregor at kag4@po.cwru.edu.
