SECURITY ADVISORY

February 27, 2003

The Department of Protective Services is asking the CWRU community to be alert for suspicious person(s) on and around campus. CWRU Security suspects a thief is working in the area looking for crimes of opportunity. There have been several thefts of unsecured property during the month of February. Some of these thefts include:

- Palm Pilots and other property from the Peter B. Lewis building
- Three thefts from unsecured lockers at the Veale Center
- A laptop computer from Gund Law School
- A laptop from Crawford Hall

There have been reports of a suspicious man in some of the main quad buildings, but as the list above indicates, no part of campus is immune to these crimes.

Please keep all offices secure when leaving them even for a moment. If securing the office is not possible (public access needed), please secure all easy-to-carry items such as laptops, camcorders, etc.

Protective Services cautions you to be careful if you approach a person of whom you are suspicious. A safer option is to call security with a description and direction of travel of the suspect.

Report any suspicious persons or activity you observe to CWRU security immediately at x3333.

If you need further information, or would like a security survey of your work area, please contact the Crime Prevention Office at 368-6811 or e-mail Karen Gregor at kag4@po.cwru.edu.
