SECURITY ADVISORY

The Department of Protective Services is issuing a security advisory asking the Case Western Reserve University community to be alert for suspicious person(s) in the area.

In an incident that allegedly occurred in September and was just recently reported to Case Security, a student said he was approached in the area of Euclid Avenue and Adelbert Road by an unknown man who said his car had broken down and he needed a ride to a service station. The student obliged, and when they arrived at a nearby service station, the suspect changed his story and asked for money. The student began driving around with the suspect in his car, finally giving him $20 so he would leave.

The suspect is described as an African-American male, in his late 20s, who is approximately 5'10", and was wearing construction-type clothing. The suspect told the student his name was C.J. Hunter and that he worked for Perk Company.

This description is very similar to that of a man who has been seen in the area at different times over the past two years.

If anyone approaches you with a similar story, please call Case Security at (368) 3333 or the University Circle Police Department at (368) 2222. If a person is legitimately in need, either department will do their best to assist that person.

Report any suspicious persons or activity you observe to Case Security immediately at (368) 3333.

The Case Office of Crime Prevention strongly advises everyone not to enter the car of a stranger and not to let a stranger enter your vehicle and to keep your car doors locked while driving.
