* This crime did not happen on campus and did not involve anyone associated with
the University, but
because of it’s proximity to campus, an alert is being issued
Type of Incident: Robbery
Location of Incident: RTA bus stop at
Date of Incident: Sunday, April 20, 2008
Time of Incident: 4:55pm
Incident Description: A high school
student was waiting for a bus at the RTA bus stop when he was approached by a
man on a bicycle. The man on the bicycle
circled around the bus stop then tried to reach into the student’s pocket. The
student spun around to avoid the suspect, who then grabbed the student. The suspect picked up a nearby bottle and
demanded money from the student. The
suspect told the student he also had a gun, although none was seen. The suspect
reached into the student’s pockets and stole his wallet, I-Pod and cell phone. The suspect fled eastbound on

Suspect(s): The suspect was
described as a black male, 20 years old, 6’ tall with a medium build and a
light beard. He was wearing a red skull
cap, a red hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans.
He was riding a silver mountain bike.

-To report a crime, suspicious activity or any
emergency, please immediately contact Campus Police Dispatch, 24 hours a day,
at 368-3333. Dispatchers will
direct the appropriate University and City responders for the situation.
- Campus Police and Security officers and University
Circle Police patrol the campus continually in patrol vehicles, utility
vehicles, bicycles, and on foot.
- Escorts are provided anywhere on campus and areas
immediately adjacent to campus. Request
an escort 24 hours by calling 368-3333
or by using emergency phones located throughout the campus.
- Protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/ or the escort service rather than walking
alone. Jog or bike during daylight only
in areas you are familiar with and stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp# if you live on campus. Let a responsible person know where you are
going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone
outside of your normal routine. Trust
your “gut” feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel
uncomfortable.
- Protect your belongings by locking your
office/room door every time you leave, don’t leave purses, book bags, laptops
and other valuables unattended. Keep
valuables out of site in your car. Don’t allow “tailgaters” to enter secured
doors behind you. Report thefts or suspicious activity
immediately to Campus Police.
