SECURITY ALERT

Type of Incident: Robbery

Location of Incident: Elephant Stairs between upper and lower South Residence Halls

Date of Incident: Occurred – Saturday, March 31, 2007; Reported – Sunday, April 1, 2007

Time of Incident: 7 p.m.

Incident Description: On Saturday, March 31, at approximately 7 p.m. a Case student was
walking down the Elephant Steps when he met the suspect, who was walking up the steps.
The suspect asked the student for money, and the student complied by giving the suspect one
dollar. The suspect then grabbed the student’s arm and threatened him, asking for all his
money. The student then gave the suspect more money from his wallet. The suspect asked
the student for his ID and tried to get the student to go to an ATM to withdraw more money.
The student refused, and the suspect continued up the stairs.

Description of Suspect(s): The student described the suspect as a black male, between 20
and 25 years old, 5’10”, 165 lbs., narrow eyes and a round face with a clear complexion and
small amount of facial hair. The suspect was wearing a red zip-up sweatshirt with DKNY in
small black lettering on it, blue jeans, black and red tennis shoes and a nylon hat.

Additional Information: The student was not injured. The suspect did not have a weapon.

  Awareness Information


-To report a crime, suspicious activity or any emergency, please immediately contact the Protective Services Dispatch Center , 24 hours a day, at 368-3333 .  Dispatchers will direct the appropriate University and City responders for the situation.
 
- Protective Services and University Circle Police patrol the campus continually in patrol vehicles, utility vehicles, bicycles, and on foot. 
 
- Escorts are provided anywhere on campus and locations immediately adjacent to campus.  Request an escort 24 hours a day by calling 368-3333 or by using an emergency phone, located throughout the campus.

- Protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/   or the escort service rather than walking alone.  Jog or bike during daylight only in areas you are familiar with and stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp#   if you live on campus.  Let a responsible person know where you are going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone outside of your normal routine.  Trust your gut feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel uncomfortable.
 
- Protect your belongings by locking your office/room door every time you leave, don't leave purses, book bags, laptops and other valuables unattended.  Keep valuables out of site in your car. Don't allow tailgaters to enter secured doors behind you. Report thefts or suspicious activity immediately to Protective Services.
