DEPARTMENT OF POLICE AND SECURITY SERVICES SECURITY ALERT Type of Incident: RobberyLocation of Incident: Cleveland Music School Settlement, Mistletoe and Wade Park Avenue Date(s)/Time(s) of Incident(s): Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at 6:40 p.m. Incident Description: A visitor to the Music School Settlement reported having her purse stolen while she was entering her car in the parking lot next to the building. The woman told police that she opened her passenger door and placed her purse on the front seat. She left the door open as she opened the rear door and placed her child in the rear seat. The suspect approached and grabbed the purse from the front seat. The suspect then pushed the woman aside and fled north past Wade Park Avenue. Cleveland Police and University Circle Police responded and searched the area but did not find the suspect. Description of Suspect(s): The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20 years old, 5’6”, 120 lbs. He was wearing a long, oversized, dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt and dark baggy pants. Additional Information: The woman did not report any injuries from the incident. Request an escort 24 hours a day by calling 368-3333 or by using an emergency phone, located throughout the campus. - Protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/ or the escort service rather than walking alone. Jog or bike during daylight only in areas you are familiar with and stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp# if you live on campus. Let a responsible person know where you are going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone outside of your normal routine. Trust your gut feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel uncomfortable. - Protect your belongings by locking your office/room door every time you leave, don't leave purses, book bags, laptops and other valuables unattended. Keep valuables out of site in your car. Don't allow tailgaters to enter secured doors behind you.
