Type of Incident: Attempted Kidnapping
Location of Incident: East 119th
Street, near Mayfield Road (just east of the railroad tracks heading into
Little Italy from campus)
Date of Incident: Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Time of Incident: 3:37pm
Incident Description: A UH employee
was walking to a UH parking lot on East 119th street near the
intersection of Mayfield when she noticed
a vehicle stop in front of her. As she
walked past the car, a man got out of the car, approached her and told her to
get in his car and not run away. The
woman turned and ran away from the suspect and as she called 911 on her cell
phone. As the woman looked back toward
the suspect, she noticed a UH Security vehicle approaching. She got the attention of the officer; however
the suspect got back into his vehicle and left before the officer arrived.
Description of
Suspect(s): The victim described the
suspect as a black male, 20 to 30 years old wearing a black and white cap and a
long sleeve black sweatshirt. The
suspect was driving a newer model mid-sized 4 door black sedan with 30-day
tags.
Additional Information: The victim was not injured during the incident.

vehicles, bicycles, and on foot.

immediately adjacent to campus. Request

or by using emergency phones located throughout the campus.
- Protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/ or the escort service rather than walking
alone. Jog or bike during daylight only
in areas you are familiar with and stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp# if you live on campus. Let a responsible person know where you are
going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone
outside of your normal routine. Trust
your “gut” feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel uncomfortable.
- Protect your belongings by locking your
office/room door every time you leave, don’t leave purses, book bags, laptops
and other valuables unattended. Keep
valuables out of site in your car. Don’t allow “tailgaters” to enter secured
doors behind you. Report thefts or suspicious activity immediately to Campus
Police.
