Type of Incident:  Aggravated Burglary

Incident Description:
 While sitting in his apartment, a student heard a noise from his back door and went to investigate.  The student saw a man standing in the living room holding a knife and a metal rod.  The suspect demanded money from the student and threatened him. The student cooperated and gave the suspect his money.  The suspect had the student lay on his bed before he fled from the building.  The student noticed that his laptop computer was also stolen.

 

Description of Suspect(s):  The suspect was described as a black male, 5”8” to 5”11”, thin to medium build, dark complexion, small amount of facial hair, 25 to 30 years old.  The suspect was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a black skull cap. 

Additional Information:   The student was not injured during this incident.  Further investigation revealed that the suspect ran to the RTA train station.  Case Police are working with RTA police to identify a suspect through RTA system CCTV images.

-To report a crime, suspicious activity or any emergency, please immediately contact Campus Police Dispatch, 24 hours a day, at 368-3333.  Dispatchers will direct the appropriate University and City responders for the situation.

 

- Campus Police and Security officers and University Circle Police patrol the campus continually in patrol vehicles, utility vehicles, bicycles, and on foot. 

 

- Escorts are provided anywhere on campus and areas immediately adjacent to campus.  Request an escort 24 hours by calling 368-3333 or by using emergency phones located throughout the campus.

- Protect yourself by using the campus bus service http://greenie.case.edu/  or the escort service rather than walking alone.  Jog or bike during daylight only in areas you are familiar with and stay within University Circle http://www.universitycircle.org/uc_maps_parking.asp#  if you live on campus.  Let a responsible person know where you are going, when you will return and how to contact you if you go somewhere alone outside of your normal routine.  Trust your “gut” feelings and avoid persons and situations that make you feel uncomfortable.

 

- Protect your belongings by locking your office/room door every time you leave, don’t leave purses, book bags, laptops and other valuables unattended.  Keep valuables out of site in your car. Don’t allow “tailgaters” to enter secured doors behind you. Report thefts or suspicious activity immediately to Campus Police.
