Legal Update

As a manager, it is essential that you are knowledgeable and understand the laws surrounding Human Resources. We will review Federal and State laws prohibiting employment discrimination and retaliation, as well as laws governing wage and overtime issues, employment-related background checks, family and medical leaves, and occupational safety, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA), Fair Credit Reporting Act, Family Medical Leave Act and Occupational Safety and Health Act. In addition to reviewing how these laws impact your role as a supervisor; this session will identify new legislation that will impact your role in 2010.

Documenting Performance and Behavioral Issues

Documenting and addressing performance and behavioral issues is an important task, but most times it is avoided by supervisors. Even though it is an uncomfortable task, it is necessary to address issues and concerns as they come up and ensure that the documentation is thorough and accurate. Accurate and thorough documentation provides the employee with important feedback on performance. It also helps supervisors support their handling of performance and behavior issues and defend these actions should any questions or claims arise. In this supervisory briefing session, supervisors will learn how to document performance and behavior issues to help prevent potential issues and claims or support the actions taken should a claim arise.
