Addressing Employee Attendance Issues

Do you have questions about managing employees’ attendance?  As a supervisor, you do have tools available to assist you in managing your department and to address any attendance issues fairly and consistently.  In our session we will:

  • discuss the university’s attendance policy,
  • review the definitions of different types of occurrences,
  • provide examples for counseling employees, and
  • provide examples to formally address various types of absenteeism issues in a legally sound manner and in accordance with the university’s Positive Corrective Action Policy.

Documentation samples and real-life scenarios will be presented to offer you a chance to practice the decision-making involved in implementing attendance policies.

ADA, FMLA and Legal Issues that Come Up Every day in the Workplace!

It is essential in your role as a manager that you are knowledgeable and understand the Federal, State and Local laws affecting the personnel decisions you make.  We will review the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) and discuss the accommodation process and the interaction between the ADA and medical leaves provided under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).  Additional topics that will be addressed include: the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, Avoiding Retaliation Claims, and Addressing Harassment in the Workplace.   By attending this session, you will have the information and insight needed to address supervisory issues while complying with these laws.

Managing Inappropriate and Unprofessional Employee Behavior

As a manager, you may encounter employees who exhibit Inappropriate/Unprofessional Behavior in the Workplace.  It is essential that you are knowledgeable and understand Case’s Policies and Procedures surrounding how to handle these situations. We will review and examine different types of behavioral issues, proper documentation of behavior issues utilizing the Positive Corrective Action process, how to counsel and correct unacceptable behavior in a timely manner, effective ways of providing your employees with constructive comments and feedback, and techniques for fostering good working relationships within the Workplace.
