Several postdoctoral fellow positions are available in the laboratory of Mukesh K. Jain MD, Sedgwick Professor of Medicine and Director of the Case Cardiovascular Research Institute. Our research interest focuses on understanding the transcriptional mechanisms underlying cellular development and function in cardiovascular cells. Specifically we study a family of factors termed Kruppel¹s in the context of three major areas: (1) Endothelial/smooth muscle cell biology; (2) macrophage biology; (3) cardiomyocyte biology. In each case specific members of this family of factors have been identified by the Jain laboratory as important regulators of cellular development and/or function. Future studies will focus on identifying interaction partners for these factors (using yeast two-hybrid or MALDI-mass spec approaches), the regulation of these factors in specific cell types, and the effect of altering the expression of these factors in vivo. The latter will involve either studying pre-established mouse lines (transgenic, knockout, conditional knockout) or generating specific mouse lines. Interested individuals (PhD and/or MD degree) must have a strong background in molecular and cellular biology and be highly motivated.
DEPARTMENT OF REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY Applications are invited for a Senior Research Associate position for a project of early detection and treatment of epithelial cancers. The position offered is for one to three years. The candidate must have earned MD, PhD (biology, physiology, biochemistry or molecular biology) or both, with proven postdoc fellowship expertise and track record in pathology. The applicant should hold a doctorate in mathematics, statistics, computer science, computational biology, biophysics, or a related discipline. The individual hired will pursue research in statistical and computational approaches to uncovering human genetic/genomic variation from complex, high-dimensional data, and interpreting the results. Experience with R, S, S-PLUS, or MATLAB, as well as training in statistical methodologies, is required. Training in statistical genetics is highly desirable.
