Baker Demolition 2004
Built in 1957, Baker was once home to the offices of the Center for Community Partnerships, SAGES (the Seminar Approach to General Education & Scholarship); Multicultural Affairs; University Relations, Programs and Events; the Instructional Television Network; Hatch Auditorium and numerous classrooms. The Campus Master Plan calls for the removal of the Baker Building to create a green space that will draw visitors in towards the Case Quad. A path running through this space will be designed by the winner of a campus-wide competition held in November 2004.
Demolition of the Baker Building began Monday afternoon, November 29th, and will continue for approximately 5-6 weeks. Work will begin at the northwest corner of the building, and proceed southeast toward Adelbert Hall.
The sidewalk along Euclid Avenue will remain open throughout the project, however the RTA Bus Shelter on Euclid Avenue will be removed. The walkway on the west side of Adelbert Road as well as those between the Baker Building, Adelbert Hall and Amasa Stone Chapel will be closed for the duration of the project. The east entrances of Amasa Stone Chapel will remain accessible.
We understand this project will create noise for occupants of those buildings in close proximity to the demolition. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask that if you have concerns about the noise level, or any other aspect of the project, to please contact the Customer Service Center for Facility Operations at 368-2580.
Landscaping is scheduled for the Spring of 2005. The fencing will be removed after completion of the landscape.
We thank you for your patience as we continue to work to enhance and beautify the campus.
