COMMENCEMENT REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN MARCH 1.
All orders for guest tickets must be made through the online registration form by the deadline of April 1, 2009.
All students attending any of the Commencement Ceremonies are required to complete The School of Law Survey by April 1, 2009. Completing this survey will help us to adequately plan for the proper number of guests who will be joining us for the Commencement ceremonies.
School of Law Survey is open.
University-wide Convocation Ceremony
If you plan to attend the morning University-wide Convocation, please arrive in the Lower Rotunda at the Law School by 8:15 a.m. A continental breakfast will be available in the Rotunda from 7:30 a.m. for you and your guests.
The Veale Center will open at 8:00 a.m. for guest seating; the academic procession will leave the law school at 8:40 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 9:30, concluding at 10:45. All guests must have a ticket to attend the Convocation Ceremony in Veale Center. Guests without tickets are welcome to view the ceremony via live broadcast in either the Emerson P.E. School of Law Diploma Ceremony
The law diploma ceremony will be held in Severance Hall at 2:00 p.m.
All graduates participating in the Law Diploma Ceremony must report to their assigned assembly room to check-in as soon as they arrive at the law school building. At check-in, you'll be given your procession and seat assignment, and we can assist you with your regalia, honor cords, etc. Please check-in as soon as you arrive in the law school building, before 12:30 P.M. at the latest.
After checking-in, you can enjoy the luncheon reception with your guests. All graduates must report back to the assembly room at 1:00 p.m. sharp for final instructions before the academic procession begins.
The Academic Procession will leave the law school at 1:15 and will pause on the East Blvd lawn outside of the law school for group and family pictures; your guests are encouraged to watch the academic procession and take pictures along the East Blvd lawn. (Guests are not permitted to enter the assembly/robing areas at the Law School or Severance Hall).
Severance Hall will open for guest seating at 1:40 P.M.; the academic procession will enter the auditorium and the ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. All guests must have a ticket to attend the Law Diploma Ceremony in Severance Hall.
Special Accommodations For Disabled Guests
If you require any special accommodations for disabled graduates or guests, be sure to let us know in advance. Complete and submit a "Request for Special Accommodations" by April 29. These forms are available in the Office of Public Affairs at the Law School, Room A36.
Appropriate Academic Attire
Graduates must wear Case academic regalia (gown, hood, and cap) to participate in the procession and ceremonies.
No adornment of any kind is worn outside the robe or cap and no item (i.e., purse or backpack) may be carried. A small fanny pack worn under the gown around the waist is a good solution to carry such items as keys, comb, money, and personal identification. Graduates may leave personal items in their lockers or assembly rooms at the law school. It's a long day with lots of foot travel, and some stairs, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes and attire appropriate for the weather.
When you register to participate in Commencement, your order for regalia is handled as part of the registration process. You may pay your rental fee and pick up your regalia at the University Bookstore during the week of May 12 - 17. All rental regalia must be returned to the Bookstore immediately following Commencement. Any rental attire not returned by May 19 will result in your being billed for the entire replacement cost of the regalia.
All inquiries related to cap and gowns are handled through the University Bookstore which is located in the Thwing Center on Euclid Avenue. The bookstore's telephone number is (216) 368-2650.
Photographs
A professional photographer from Chappell Studios will take a picture of each graduate receiving his or her diploma. Graduates will receive a free proof of this photo in the mail within 14 days after Commencement Day, along with information on how to purchase additional prints.
Since professional photographs will be available, family members and guests are encouraged to remain in their seats, relax and enjoy the ceremony. To insure the comfort and safety of everyone, guests may not block the aisles or sightlines of others during the ceremony. For safety reasons, guests are not permitted onto the stage area at Severance Hall.
