To our graduates and their friends and families: Thank you for being part of an event that celebrates the very best Case Western Reserve University has to offer. In conferring degrees, we honor the hard work of our students, as well as the dedication of the faculty who teach them. At the same time, we recognize the crucial role our staff play in the scholarship and research that take place every day on our campus. Finally, commencement offers all of us the opportunity to express appreciation to the friends and family who have contributed to our graduates' success.
Those who receive diplomas this May will join an esteemed group of more than 100,000 alumni spread around the world. Attorneys and physicians, academics and engineers-no matter their career, these individuals all share a common understanding of the importance and impact of an education at Case Western Reserve University. Our alumni add to their communities in countless ways, and many also contribute to our institution by participating in alumni activities at the university and with chapters around the world. I hope all of you in the class of 2014 continue your connections with our institution.
For now, however, I encourage you to savor this accomplishment and enjoy the many festivities taking place across the campus. I look forward to seeing you during commencement weekend, but for now let me simply say, congratulations.
