Research Databases

Databases are collections of data organized for rapid search and retrieval by a computer. In libraries they are primarily bibliographic in nature, indexing journals, meetings and sometimes books. An example of a database is PubMed.

  • MEDLINEplus
    MEDLINEplus has extensive information from the National Institutes of Health and other trusted sources on over 700 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and a medical dictionary, health information in Spanish, extensive information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information from the media, and links to thousands of clinical trials. MEDLINEplus is updated daily and can be bookmarked at the URL: medlineplus.gov. There is no advertising on this site, nor does MEDLINEplus endorse any company or product.
  • Nursing Information - CINAHL
    This database provides access to nursing & allied health literature & information from 1982 to the present.
  • EBM Reviews
    Evidence based medicine from Ovid. Please also see the online subject guide for Evidence-Based Medicine.
  • Genetics Home Reference
    Genetics Home Reference is the National Library of Medicine's web site about genetic conditions and the genes responsible for those conditions.
  • HSTAT
    Health Services/Technology Assessment Text is a searchable collection of large, full-text clinical practice guidelines, technology assessments and health information.
  • Toxic Release Inventory (TRI)
    The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) contains information about more than 650 toxic chemicals that are being used, manufactured, treated, transported, or released into the environment. Manufacturers of these chemicals are required to report the locations and quantities of chemicals stored on-site to state and local governments. The reports are submitted to the EPA and state governments.
  • Web of Science Citation Databases
    Covers 1980- present. Included are Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index.

  • NIH Consensus Development Program
