CLEVELAND HEALTH SCIENCES LIBRARY

Information

Cleveland Health Sciences Library

The Cleveland Health Sciences Library was formed in 1966 by an agreement between the Cleveland Medical Library Association (CMLA) and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). CHSL operates in two locations: The Allen Memorial Medical Library, which has a collection of clinical books and journals, and which is home to the Dittrick Medical History Center and its collection of rare books, archives, medical artifacts, and books on the history of medicine, and the Health Center Library, which has a collection of basic sciences, nursing, dentistry, and biology books, journals, audiovisuals, and microforms. The combined collections total over 475,000 volumes including electronics and collectibles and over 2500 journal subscriptions both print and electronic within scope. Both libraries are open to the public for in-house use of most materials. Personal and institutional members of the CMLA, and faculty, students and staff of CWRU have borrowing privileges. The Cleveland Health Sciences Library serves as a resource library in the Greater Midwest Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine. CHSL also participates in OhioLINK, OHIONET, and OCLC.

Health Center Library Journals

All pre-1970 Health Center Library journals have been transferred to the Allen Memorial Medical Library. These journals are located in the Allen stacks.

If you are uncertain about the location of a journal, please remember that information about print journals may be accessed by TITLE in EuclidPLUS.

Information about electronic journals is found in the list of CWRU Electronic Journals at the E-Journal Portal site.

Interlibrary Loan

Through Interlibrary Loan, CHSL obtains books, journal articles and sometimes other materials not available at Case or through OhioLINK. CHSL uses the ILLiad system.

Photocopiers and Printers

Both the Health Center and the Allen libraries have black and white photocopiers and printers equipped with card readers and coin-ops which accept nickels, dimes, quarters, one dollar bills and five dollar bills. The library provides no change. Copy cards are available from Access Services.
