Cleveland Health Sciences Library
The Cleveland Health Sciences Library was formed in 1965 by
an agreement between the Cleveland Medical Library Association
(CMLA)
and Western Reserve University.
CHSL operates in two locations: The Allen
Memorial Medical Library, which has a collection of clinical
books and journals, and which is home to the Dittrick
Medical History Center and its collection of rare books,
archives, medical artifacts, and books on the history of medicine,
and the Health
Center Library, which has a collection of basic sciences,
nursing, dentistry, and biology books, journals, audiovisuals,
and microforms. The combined collections total over 430,000
volumes including electronics and collectibles, with print and electronic journal subscriptions numbering in excess of
60,000, electronic books numbering over
60,000, and print books numbering over 118,500. Both libraries
are open to the public for in-house use of most materials. Personal
and institutional members of the CMLA, and faculty, students
and staff of CWRU have borrowing privileges. The Cleveland Health
Sciences Library serves as a resource library in the Greater
Midwest Region of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.
CHSL also participates in OhioLINK, OHIONET, and OCLC.
Health Center Library Journals
All pre-1970 Health Center Library journals have been transferred
to the Allen Memorial Medical Library. These journals are located in the Allen stacks.
If you are uncertain about the location of a journal, please
remember that information about print journals may be accessed by TITLE in CWRU's Library Catalog.
Information about electronic journals is found in the list of CWRU Electronic Journals at the E-Journal Portal site.
Interlibrary Loan
Through Interlibrary
Loan, CHSL obtains books, journal articles and sometimes
other materials not available at CWRU or through OhioLINK. CHSL
uses the ILLiad
system.
