AURORA

FEEDBACK

Aurora Project Credits

Over the life span of the Aurora Project, we've had our successes and setbacks, but with the help of many talented people, we've managed to keep advancing. We'd like to take this opportunity to offer our appreciation to all who have assisted us, and especially to:

  • Dr. Raymond K. Neff, former Vice President for Information Services; for both moral and financial support. The man who told us to "plan for success" from the outset.
  • Ray Metz, Director, Library Information Technologies; for his faith and trust that we know what we are doing (most of the time) and allowing us to try unorthodox solutions.
  • Jim Nauer, DMS; for his technical wizardry and for convincing the rest of us that the WorldWideWeb was going to trigger the next information technology revolution.
  • John Sully, DMS; for doing the original conversion of the 536-page University General Bulletin and for creating Application Launcher nearly six months before the rest of the world did the same thing.
  • David Rodgers, DMS; for acting as chief architect of our first on-line course project and for his assistance in retrofitting the General Bulletin.
  • Dan Alt, DMS; for putting a great deal of work on the low-profile retrofit as well as leading the hunt for broken links.
  • Eric Johnson and Anne Johnson (no relation), DMS; for their assistance in retrofitting the General Bulletin.
  • Stephen Trier, CNS; for his endless patience and tireless efforts to make CWRUnet software work. We might have been able to do it without him; you just wouldn't have been able to see or use it.
  • Tom Roberts; for helping us view the technology from the publisher's perspective and assisting us in locating other smaller-scale WWW projects around campus.
  • Stu Kollar & the University Publications department for providing several megabytes of raw material, and for eagerly embracing a new technology that will radically alter the way they work (again).
  • The OhioLINK Technical Advisory Council for convincing us that the WWW was enough entrenched in the future plans of Ohio universities to not wait any longer.
  • The development efforts at the Honolulu Community College, Mississippi State University, NASA Lewis Research Center, Georgia Institute of Technology and Trinity College, from which we got many starting ideas and practical applications of the technology as it applies to a networked learning environment.
  • You, our users and testers, for your continued support, suggestions and constructive criticisms which allow the interface to keep evolving to better serve you.
  • And finally, to the staff of the officially non-existent Lockheed Aeronautical Test Facility at Groom Lake, Nevada, also known as "Dreamland" or "Area 51", for pioneering the engineering concept that just because something can't be done is no reason not to do it anyway... and for giving us the real reason for the project name Aurora, but that's 'need to know' information.
