CLEVELAND, OH (December 1st, 2007)- The Case Western Reserve University women’s swimming and diving team placed third-out-of-11 schools at the College of Wooster Invitational in Wooster, Ohio.
Wooster placed first overall with 1,608 points, followed by Allegheny College in second with 1,143 points and the Spartans in third with 1002.50 points.
The Spartans improved from a fifth-place finish at the Wooster Invitational in 2006 and had a fantastic day-three of competition.
Case had four swimmers finish in the top-five positions at individual day-three competition, including three freshman.
Freshman Amanda Timson (Livonia, MI) placed third overall in the 1650-yard freestyle event with a time of 18:41.66, freshman Marine Gu (Longwood, FL) placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle event at 55.21, junior Janine Machala (North Olmstead, OH-pictured) finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke event at 2:34.48 and freshman Emma Call (Baltimore, MD) placed fourth overall in the 200-yard butterfly event at 2:18.48.
The Spartans 400-yard freestyle relay team of senior Lindsey Stahl (Bellbrook, OH) senior Becca Winarski (Germantown, WI), freshman Nicole Lord (Akron, OH) and Gu placed fifth, finishing in 3:45.55.
The College of Wooster won the overall competition with 3,244 points. Westminster College finished second with 2,585 points and the Spartans took the bronze at 2,299 points.
The Spartans are on winter break and do not return to the water until January 12th, 2008 when they host the Carnegie Mellon Tartans at the Veale Natatorium in Cleveland, Ohio.
