CLEVELAND, OH (January 12, 2007) -
Case Western Reserve University returned to the pool this afternoon for the first time since December 2. The Spartans lost by a score of 108-166 at Carnegie Mellon University.
Case junior Lauren Preyss (Chagrin Falls, OH) placed first in three events. Preyss won the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.12), the 50-yard backstroke (24:46-NCAA Provisional) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.36-NCAA Provisional). Freshman Christine Petzold (Bowie, MD) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.31) and junior Janine Machala (North Olmsted, OH-pictured) took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.72) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.31) for the Spartans.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Petzold, junior Becca Winarski (Germantown, WI), sophomore Betsy Howe (Ramstein, Germany) and junior Heather Furman (Schenectady, NY) finished first (1:47.69) and the 200-yard medley relay team of Preyss, Machala, Winarski and sophomore Lisa McHale (Ridgefield, CT) took second place (1:55.44).
The Spartans travel to Denison University January 19 and will host the University of Rochester in the Veale Natatorium on January 20.
