CARNEGIE MELLON 160, CASE 126...
CLEVELAND, OH (January 14, 2006) - The Case Western Reserve women's swimming and diving team had three Spartan swimmers win two individual events apiece in today's dual meet with UAA-rival Carnegie Mellon University at the Veale Natatorium. However it wasn't enough as Carnegie Mellon won the meet with 160 points to Case's 126. 
Claiming first place finishes for the Spartans were senior Hannah Webber (Oil City, PA), sophomore Elaine Hou - pictured (Columbus, IN), and freshman Lisa McHale (Ridgefield, CT). Webber took the top spot in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:19.80 and was also first in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:15.18. Hou swam to first place finishes in both the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.62) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:28.06). Rounding out the Case trio of first place swimmers was McHale with her victories in the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.41) and the 200 yard individual medley (2:18.29).
Spartan freshman Janine Machala (North Olmsted, OH) also had a solid effort with two second place finishes. Machala took second in the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:13.44 and second in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:39.16. In addition, Case sophomore Caitlin Gruenhagen (Wauseon, OH) also finished in second place with her time of 1:04.48 in the 100 yard backstroke.
Case will hit the pool again next weekend with a home dual match against Denison University on Friday night, followed by a quad meet at SUNY Fredonia with Rochester and Ithaca on Saturday.
