 CLEVELAND, OH (January 11, 2008) - Senior wrestler Dave Manoogian (141; Green, OH - pictured) finished the afternoon 2-0, as the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team competed in the 2008 Whitehill Duals, hosted by Lycoming College. As a team, the Spartans finished 0-2 on the afternoon, losing to Springfield and the second-seeded College of New Jersey.
In his first match of the afternoon, Manoogian notched an 8-0 majority decision over Springfield’s Jim Squire to bring the Spartans within five points. Junior Dave Bernholt (165; Versailles, OH) battled Springfield’s Victor Stanziale two matches later, but lost 8-7 in the closest match of the afternoon.
In the Spartans’ next dual against No. 2 TCNJ, Manoogian and junior Drew Gardella (149; Sagamore Hills, OH) won back-to-back matches, but as a team, the Spartans would fall, 34-13.
Senior heavyweight Bob Gavlak (285; Brunswick, OH) finished the day 2-0, winning both matches by forfeit.
The Spartans will square off against Norwich at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow and will wrestle in a consolation dual later in the afternoon.
