2007 UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS...
CLEVELAND, OH (February 3, 2007) - The University of Chicago won the UAA conference tri meet today in Chicago. The Spartans dropped both dual meets losing 29-7 to New York University and 37-11 against the University of Chicago. Junior heavyweight Dawud Wilson (Cleveland, OH) was the lone conference champion for the Spartans. He won by major decision against James Layman from NYU and received a forfeit from the University of Chicago.
Sophomore Drew Gardella (Sagamore Hills, OH-pictured) won by technical fall against Jack Touisant from the University of Chicago and lost 6-4 to Gene Kobelinsky from NYU, who won the conference’s outstanding wrestler award. Senior Russ Tischer (Parma, OH) defeated Nathan Meyer from NYU but lost a close match to the conference’s rookie of the year Troy Carlson.
The Spartans will be back in action next Saturday February 10 at home against RIT and Muskingum.
