CLEVELAND, OH (February 11, 2006) - Case Western Reserve University head coach Bob Del Rosa is just one win shy of 300 in his career as the Spartans finished with a 1-2 record at their own Claude B. Sharer Quad. Case suffered identical 20-19 defeats to both the Rochester Institute of Technology and Muskingum College but were able to bounce back and squeak by Washington & Jefferson College 22-21.
Mike Sanchez - pictured (Dayton, OH) and Bob Gavlak (Brunswick, OH) led the way for the Spartans as both wrestlers finished with 3-0 individual marks in the quad. Sanchez had two major decisions, 9-1 and 12-3, and a technical fall win (17-0) while wrestling at 165 pounds. Meanwhile, Gavlak came away with three wins, 9-5, 8-1, and 11-2, in the 285 pound weight class.
Finishing the day with 2-1 records for Case were Kyle Vasiloff (Avon, OH) at 157 pounds and Thomas Sanders (Auburn, AL) at 197 pounds. Vasiloff lost his first match 6-4, but recovered to win his final two matches by a 4-2 decision and a 21-4 technical fall in 3:55. Sanders also suffered a defeat in his first match, 9-2, but came back to finish out with two wins, 3-1 and 5-2.
Case will host the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at the Veale Center next Saturday, February 18 with action beginning at 9:00 a.m.
