2005 PETE WILSON WHEATON COLLEGE INVITATIONAL ...
WHEATON, IL (February 5, 2005) - The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team finished 12th overall at the 2005 Pete Wilson Wheaton College Invitational this weekend. The University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse took home the team title with 178 points in the 27-team tournament.
Sophomore Mike Sanchez (Dayton, OH) was the top Spartan wrestler as he took home the fourth place spot in the 165 pound weight class. Sanchez finished the tournament with a 5-2 record, with his only two defeats at the hands of the #2 seed Brian Daly from Augustana College. Sanchez lost 3-1, SV 1 in his first meeting with Daly and then 4-2 in the third place match.
Also wrestling well for Case were freshman Geoff Protz (Chesterland, OH) and sophomore Thomas Sanders (Auburn, AL). Protz finished sixth in the 141 pound weight class with three victories, including two pins. Sanders took the seventh spot in the 197 pound weight class with three wins in the tournament.
Sophomore Russ Tischer (Parma, OH) finished eighth in the 157 pound weight class and recorded the fastest fall in the tournament as he pinned Jim Lima from Lawrence University in just 12 seconds.
Case will host a Quad Meet this upcoming Saturday with the Rochester Institute of Technology, Washington & Jefferson, and Muskingum College visiting the Veale Center.
