WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2007-08


CLEVELAND, OH (February 22, 2008) -
Case Western Reserve University freshman guard Caitlin Henry (Fairfax, VA-pictured) scored a career- and game-high 21 points tonight, but the University of Rochester, currently ranked 17th in the country, handed the Spartans their fourth straight University Athletic Association loss, 92-71, in Rochester, New York.

Henry was 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-6 from long distance. Case Western Reserve made 12-of-31 shots from beyond the arc as a team.

The Spartans (11-12, 4-8 UAA) travel to Pittsburgh tomorrow and will face Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in game two of its UAA road double-header.

After the two teams traded three-pointers to begin the game, Rochester (19-4, 9-3 UAA) continued to hit from long distance. Jessica Waddell hit the Yellowjackets sixth three-pointer in the first ten minutes to put them up 30-16 at 10:43. But Case Western Reserve, who was led Henry’s 12 first-half points, scored the last five points of the half and only trail by eight, 45-37, at the break.

Rochester finished off a 9-0 run and took a demanding 19-point lead, 61-42, on a layup by Waddell at 15:04. Caroline Bernal-Silva put Case Western Reserve away for good with a jumper that finished off a 7-0 run and put the Yellowjackets up 22, 74-52, with 9:57 remaining. The Spartans would get no closer than 18 points in the last 10 minutes as Rochester outrebounded them 29-15 in the second half and 47-33 in the game.

Case Western Reserve had four players in double figures as sophomore guard Ashleigh Tondo (McDonald, OH), senior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) and senior guard Mary Herendeen (Austinburg, OH) added 20, 12 and 11 points, respectively. Helen Baroody led four Rochester players in double-digitd with 20 points.
