CLEVELAND, OH (February 10, 2008) -
Case Western Reserve sophomore Ashleigh Tondo (McDonald, OH-pictured) tied for a game-high 20 points, but the Spartans lost to Brandeis University 72-63 today in a University Athletic Association game in Waltham, Mass. It was Tondo’s 15th double figure game of the season.

Case Western Reserve will be taking a step back in time next weekend [Feb. 15-17] when it hosts the third annual Throwback Weekend at Adelbert Gymnasium. The Spartans will wear Mather College uniforms Friday night when they face Washington University at 6:00 p.m. Click here for more information.

Case Western Reserve (11-9, 4-5 UAA) senior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) tied the game at five apiece with a three-pointer less than three minutes into the game. Lauren Rashford then ended a 16-5 run that gave Brandeis (15-5, 6-3 UAA) a 21-10 lead with a layup at 10:43. Freshman forward Austin Howell (Atlanta, GA) ended the first half scoring on a jumper with 1:43 left to bring the Spartans with six, 29-23, at the break.

Junior forward Colleen Martin (Rocky River, OH) brought Case Western Reserve within two, 34-32, with a three-pointer at 15:41, but that is as close as it would get. Brandeis went on a 9-0 run finished off by a Kasey Gieschen jumper to take a 43-32 lead and never looked back. The Judges out rebounded the Spartans, who shot just 37 percent from the field, 42-34 in the game.

Jaime Capra led the Judges with 20 points. Horton added 13 points and eight rebounds for Case Western Reserve.
