WOMEN'S BASKETBALL—2007-08


CLEVELAND, OH (January 20, 2008) -
Case Western Reserve University senior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH-pictured) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-57 loss to Washington University at the WU Field House in St. Louis, Mo. Case Western Reserve (8-6, 1-2) hosts Carnegie Mellon University in their UAA home opener Friday at 6:00 p.m.

After the Bears (11-3, 3-0 UAA) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, Case Western Reserve senior guard Mary Herendeen (Austinburg, OH) hit a three-pointer at 19:06 to make it 5-3. Junior guard Shanna-Lei Dacanay finished off a 29-10 Washington run with a made jumper at 6:29 that made it 34-13. The Spartans shot just 20 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 47-23 at the break.

The Bears pushed their lead to 30, 54-24, when Dacanay hit another shot at 17:56 and Case Western Reserve would not cut Washington’s lead to fewer than 20 in the remainder of the game. The Spartans, who shot just 30.5 percent from the field in the contest, dropped their second straight and the Bears won the sixth straight.

Herendeen and freshman guard Caitlin Henry ( Fairvax, VA) had 14 and 12 points, respectively. Junior guard Jill Brandt led four Washington players in double figures with 19 points.
